April 20, 2012 — EVANSTON, ILL. — Members of the Northwestern University "Wildcat" Marching Band will once again don their uniforms this spring. Tomorrow, they will be supporting the Wildcat women's lacrosse team beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Lakeside Field on the Evanston campus.
The band "enjoyed playing at the women's lacrosse home opener last month," says Daniel J. Farris, director of athletic bands.
Festivities at that game included recognizing the team's national champion standing, and concluded with a 15-2 win over the Oregon Ducks.
Since then, the Wildcats have accrued an undefeated season record. Two down-to-the-wire wins over ranked opponents last weekend were only the start of Northwestern's exciting five-game homestand, which continues at 1 p.m. Saturday against No. 5 Florida. The 'Cats and Gators, who split their two meetings last season, bring matching 4-0 American Lacrosse Conference records into the game and are playing to determine the No. 1 seed in next month's ALC Tournament. Comprehensive game previews are featured at NUsports.com.
Prior to the game, Northwestern students are invited to a free student tailgate in the parking lot at Lakeside Field beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Wildcat Marching Band will begin their performance at the same time, and continue throughout the match. The team also will host an autograph session for any and all fans following the game.
The Big Ten Network will carry the game on tape delay commencing at 4 p.m. During the game, fans can follow the action with @NU_SportsLIVE on Twitter, view live stats on Gametracker, and listen online to WNUR Sports. The team can also be found on Twitter as @NUlax.
Tickets may be purchased at the gate for $7 (adults), $4 (18 and under) and $3 for groups of 15 or more. Parking at Lakeside Field is free for all Northwestern women's lacrosse home games.
Saturday marks the Wildcat Band's sixth performance this spring, including last month's lacrosse home opener and last week's spring football exhibition. Photos from the later event are being posted on the Northwestern Bands' Flickr photostream. Fans are invited to submit photos of the band at Saturday's lacrosse contest on the NUMB Photo Group.
