The Northwestern University 'Wildcat' Basketball Band Cheers at Welsh-Ryan Arena October 28, 2012 — EVANSTON, ILL. — "It's almost time for basketball season to begin!" says Daniel J. Farris, director of althletic bands at Northwestern University.

Student musicians from across the university are invited to an informational meeting tomorrow, Monday, October 29, at 5 p.m. in Regenstein Hall room 011, to learn about becoming members of the Northwestern University "Wildcat" Basketball Band.

Everyone should "bring a pen or pencil, their calendar, and new ideas," says Farris. Instruments will not be needed. "Schedules and general procedures will be discussed," he says.

The band performs for most home basketball games at Welsh-Ryan Arena, and at post-season basketball events around the nation. On occasion, they have also appeared at non-basketball events, including events related to Chicago's bid for last summer's Olympic games. Usually, the band is divided into "purple" and "white" sections which alternate performances to reduce the time required of the student musicians.

Although many members of NUBB, as it is often called, are also members of the "Wildcat" Marching Band, it is not a requirement.

"Please pass on [the invitation] to any others who would be interested in participating this year," says Farris. "We want to continue our tradition of a strong band to support our Wildcat basketball teams."

Students who cannot attend the meeting but are interested in learning more about the basketball band should contact Mr. Farris immediately.
