September 15, 2014 — EVANSTON, ILL. — Evanston residents of all ages are invited to celebrate the back to school season during 'Kits, 'Cats and Kids Week. There will be a big Block party on Thu., Sept. 18 and the week culminates with a Big Ten football game at Ryan Field. The Northwestern University "Wildcat" Marching Band and Evanston Township High School Marching Band will be featured performers.

Throughout the week, Northwestern student athletes will visit several elementary schools to read with students. It is a tradition spanning several years.

The block party will be held on Thu., Sept. 18 from 5 to 7:45 p.m. on Sherman Ave. between Church and Davis Streets. There will be games, arts and crafts, and family-friendly activities filling the street. Parking at the Sherman Plaza Self Park Garage will be free when tickets are validated at the City of Evanston tent.

The Wildkit and Wildcat Marching Bands will invigorate the block party crowd. There will be free hot dogs to the first 200 people and several popular food trucks will be on site and local restaurants will welcome partygoers.

On Fri., Sept. 19, Evanston Township High School will host Maine West on the gridiron. View details of the contest.

Then on Sat., Sept. 20, Northwestern University and the City of Evanston are teaming up to host Evanston Day at Ryan Field as the Wildcats take on the Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks. Discounted tickets will be available for Evanston residents at Thursday's block party so they can help fill the stadium with a sea of purple while cheering for the home team. Discounted tickets can also be purchased through Friday 19 at when using the promotions code ""PURPLE".

Be sure to also visit Wildcat Alley, the free fan fest area outside Ryan Field. Open three hours before each home game, Wildcat Alley is fun for all ages and features games, face painting, autographs, and giveaways. The Wildcat Band is scheduled to present a pregame concert at 10 a.m.
